2. Bear Creek Cabins Colorado Summer Activity – White Water Rafting
Experience the memory of a lifetime at of of many white water rafting spots in the Rocky Mountains!
White water rafting, for those who don’t know, is simply taking a raft down a river that has “white” water in it.
White water, at the basic level, is essentially fast moving, frothy water. There are scientific reasons behind why the water becomes like this, but that are not relevant for the purpose of this article.
White water rafting is a blast for the whole family to enjoy, especially on a hot day when the sun is out! Here are our top recommendations of white water rafting places near our bear creek cabins Colorado:
3. Bear Creek Cabins Colorado Summer Activity – Mountain Biking
Hit the dirt and dash in the plentiful Rocky Mountain forest. Just don’t forget to wear a helmet!
Similar to hiking, Evergreen offers a variety of mountain biking trails that range in difficulty. Our favorite spot for a good beginner / intermediate ride would be Alderfer / Three Sisters Park, located about 10 minutes away from our Colorado cabins.
We recommend going early in the morning to any mountain bike trail you chose, as they tend to get more crowded during the mid morning through the afternoon.

6. Bear Creek Cabins Colorado Summer Activity – Hiking
Lace up the shoes and hit the trails at one of many offerings in the Evergreen area.
As aforementioned, Evergreen has a variety of hiking trails that range in difficulty. Here are our top three recommendations for each level:
Beginner – Maxwell Falls Upper Trail Head
Maxwell Falls is a great, beginner level hike to catch some serious mountain views without being too difficult on the body. In addition to the great views, Maxwell Falls Upper Trail Head also runs along Maxwell Creek, and has a couple of water falls that you will pass!

Intermediate – Pence Park
Pence Park is another great hike in the Evergreen area, but is a little more difficult than Maxwell Falls Upper Trail Head.
Expect steep inclines throughout the whole trail, as the elevation gain is about 750 feet. At the summit of this short but sweet hike, you can catch views of the entire Evergreen area that are worth the work it took to get up there in the first place!

Expert – Bergen Peak Trail
Last but not least, one of our favorite but more difficult hikes is the Bergen Peak Trail. For the average hiker, this will take about 4-5 hours to complete, so be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and snacks.
The total distance of the hike is around 10.5 miles and the elevation gain is a whopping 2,230 feet, so certainly not for the beginner hiker.
However, if you are up for the challenge and are confident in your cardiovascular fitness, the views at the top of this one are also well worth the work!

Black Diamond Expert (Bonus) – 14ers
If Bergen Peak was too easy for you, the last extreme hikes you can consider are what are known as “14ers” or hikes whose summit is above 14,000 feet in elevation.
There are a few great 14ers near our Colorado cabins, and to learn more please check out our more detailed article.
General Hiking Tips
In general, we recommend going early in the morning (like mountain biking) to avoid the times when the trails are most heavily trafficked.
Also, we recommend bringing some kind of beverage(s) with you during your hikes, especially in the summer months. Hiking demands a lot from the body so it is important to stay hydrated!
